Hi, I’m Alanna

Home REnovatoR – Architectural Technician – Masters of Building Science

Welcome to The Yellow Brick Rose, a site to dedicated to sharing home improvement hints and encouraging aspiring DIY enthusiasts to take on new renovation projects. 

​My name is Alanna, and along with my husband Malcolm, we have been renovating our 100-year-old fixer-upper, working room by room, turning it into our family home.  Along the way, we’ve learned some valuable lessons, tips and tricks for getting the most out of the renovation experience, all of which I plan to share with you!

I have always had an interest in creative, hands-on projects, but it was only in recent years that I had the opportunity to apply these interests in a home improvement context. What I found was that there are so many aspects of home renovation that are not nearly as complicated as they are made out to seem by experts in the field. I would love to show you exactly what I’ve learned, from the general lessons down to the nitty-gritty hardworking tutorials. 

With a little bit of guidance, I know you will be thrilled with what you can accomplish in your own space, so please come along for the ride. Together we can do some pretty awesome things!
